ELDERCARE
PROGRAM
Who we are:
The Odyssey
House ElderCare program is an exciting, innovative,
treatment approach specially designed for
substance/alcohol abusers 55 years of age and older.
Based on hands-on clinical experience observing older
abusers, Odyssey House developed the ElderCare program to
help drug-addicted and isolated senior citizens achieve
lasting sobriety. With the program now entering its
fourth year of operation, the feedback from residents and
clinicians is extremely positive in terms of improved
retention, recidivism, and health indicators.
What we
offer:
- 12-18
month residential, enhanced therapeutic
community, substance abuse treatment program
- Community-based
residential program services
- Article
28 medical clinics provide comprehensive primary
medical care including medication management, HIV
testing and counseling and access to specialist
medical care
- Age
appropriate cultural and recreational activities
- Aftercare
planning including referrals to NA/AA, individual
and group therapy, housing, and job training
- Vocational
assistance to locate gainful employment as
appropriate
- Mature
staff with experience in geriatric care
Program
highlights:
- Separate
orientation from the general resident population
- Room
together with other mature peers
- Participation
in socialization/recreational activities such as
outings, trips, visits to museums, attendance at
shows, concerts, plays, community centers, and
Y's
- Staff
assistance and referrals in finding housing upon
program completion
- Help in
maintaining/re-establishing contact with family
members
