PH.D.
President of Odyssey House
Dr. Peter Provet is President of Odyssey
House, a private, non-profit substance abuse, mental
health treatment, and housing agency based in New York
City. Founded in 1967 in response to the heroin epidemic
of the late 60s, Odyssey House has since grown into a
multi-site treatment organization with programs providing
innovative care for more than 900 drug and alcohol
addicted men, women, and adolescents. The diversity of
populations treated at Odyssey House is one of the
broadest in the industry with special programs for
pregnant women, mothers with young children, homeless and
mentally ill adults, people with chronic medical
conditions including HIV/AIDS, adolescents,
court-mandated adults, and senior citizens.
Dr. Provet
joined Odyssey House as President and CEO in 1999. He has
more than 15 years of clinical experience treating people
with addictions and mental illness.
He was
awarded a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Boston
University in 1987; an M.A. in Psychology from City
College of New York in 1983; and a B.S. in Mental Health
from Tufts University in 1980. He is a Licensed
Psychologist and Certified Addictions Specialist, and
formerly an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Albert
Einstein College of Medicine.
Dr. Provet
has authored several articles and op-eds on substance
abuse issues including help for cocaine abusers and their
families, guidelines for psychologists in assessing and
treating substance abuse, and adapting treatment
techniques for special populations.
